Fake L&I inspector reported in Hunting Park

The city is warning residents to be on the lookout for somebody posing as an inspector from the Department of Licenses and Inspections.

The alert follows reports that an impostor tried to get into homes in Kensington and Hunting Park the week before Christmas.

Real L&I inspectors carry city ID, said L&I Commissioner Carlton Williams.

“Inspectors from the Department of Licenses and Inspections wear official uniforms and will produce identification and business cards upon request,” Williams stated Dec. 23. “Inspectors will never request payment or state that a fee is owed.”

According to a city news release about a recent incident, an impostor flashed a badge and then asked for a $91 payment the homeowner provided.

“If you have any doubt that an individual is, in fact, an L&I inspector, you should refuse entry and call 911 immediately,” Williams said. “Citizens also can contact L&I at 215–686–2400 to verify whether an inspector is scheduled to be at the location.” ••
